Joyful Living

Finding and Maintaining Joy with Intention

Living with intention is not about a rigid schedule or chasing perfection. It’s about aligning your thoughts and actions throughout the day with what truly matters to you. It’s time to choose purpose over pressure and presence over performance.

Are You Living with Intention?

Living with intention is about being proactive rather than reactive. Instead of letting life simply happen, you create a space to decide what deserves your energy, time, and heart. It’s the conscious act of asking yourself, does this align with who I want to become?

Every season can bring a different intention which is a big “wow” to me. Nevertheless, for some people, that is what they need in order to embrace every moment. Your mood changes and your intentions change season to season.

The season that puts me is a good mood and make me really live with intention is Summer. During this season, I often associate life with spontaneity, fun, and rest. This association may seem counterintuitive, but it is not. You don’t have to restrict your joy just because you are “living with intention”. During the summer season for me, it is about enriching my life, being very intentional and choosing joy at the highest level. Summer makes you start to notice and savor the small things like the crisp bite of a watermelon slice or looking at a little caterpillar munching away on a leaf, lol. Living with intention puts you in a happy mood knowing that you are doing the things that are most important to you.

Take It Easy!

The Joy of Slowing Down

Living With Intention

Take it Easy, I say. Are you taking heed to those words you just read? How often do we listen when someone says this or listen subconsciously as we are tell ourselves to TAKE IT EASY? Slowing down is a natural partner to intentionally living. Some people associate intentional living to “slow living”, however, I beg to differ.  There are so many videos on “slow living”. Slow Living is a trendy word and it is demonstrated in trendy videos too. I don’t recommend going straight to a video to find the answer to slowing down. Most times, the creators that are videoing their life are just setting aside a time to look as if they a taking it easy all the time. I called them influencers and not creators/educators. I do want to say not all are doing this, but most are creating content to capture your attention and then they in turn make money off of your watch hours. You have to be careful when viewing those types of videos because they can take you down the rabbit hole and make you feel like you are way behind.

Slowing down and living with intention starts by giving yourself permission to no do everything. Instead of saying yes to every event or obligation, ask yourself what you really want to do. Do you want rest, adventure, or connection to name a few. Once you identify your true desires, make choices that will reflect your desire.

Joy doesn’t require a packed itinerary. Sometimes it’s found in simple pleasures like barefoot mornings on the dewy grass, hearing the frogs croak at night by the pond, or taking walks without putting on headphones just to hear how the world sounds around you. Basically slowing down allows you to embrace and fully feel that moment of absolute Joy.

Practical Ways to Live Intentionally

Set a Seasonal Intention

Most people set their intentions or goals at the start of the new year. Why not set a seasonal intention. Choose a word or phrase that reflects what you want to invite into your life this season. It could be balance, ease, connection and/or exploration. The list can be hug, but keeping it small and intentional is the goal, right. Once you have your intention set, keep it in the forefront of you mind so when the days get chaotic, you can delve into the intentions you have set.

Curate Your Time Just For You

Time is a currency. I did a YT video on that and it was good, so check it out when you can. But anyway, Instead of filling your calendar with default plans (we all do this), curate experiences that bring genuine joy. Maybe that's a Saturday night bonfire with friends in your backyard, A Sunday morning stroll to a nearby park, or eating snacks with family while playing some nostalgia board games. Be mindful of digital distractions because they are tempting. Just remember that your life happens off screen and only you care the most about what is taking place in this thing called life.

Create a "Joy List"

I love this idea! This is a twist on the bucket list because it is more softer and more soulful when you this about it. A Joy List isn't about "must-dos" or achievements you want to accomplish. It's about capturing experiences, sensations, and moments that light you up. Have you ever thought about eating peachiness over the sink. What about dancing barefoot to your favorite song or watching the sunrise once a week. Be as creative as you like. It's your joy! Once you have your list, make it visible somewhere in your home and let your choices guide you when you need a spark of inspiration. Now, that's living intentionally.

Embrace Boundaries with Grace

Oh this is a good one! So many people struggle with this. I struggled with this. But now, I am FREE of the guilt and I embrace with grace. Intentional living includes learning to be kind, say no, and set boundaries for everyone. This includes family too. Honoring your peace is essential for sustaining joy. You don't need to offer elaborate explanations for your boundaries either. People will accept or move on. Boundaries protect your energy so you can show up fully for the moments that matter to you.

Tending to Joy Daily

I like to say that Chasing after Joy is not a finish line or a one-time reward. It's a daily practice that you build through small, mindful choices. You can stay rooted in joy by having morning check-ins (How do you want to feel today), practice gratitude in real-time by saying what feels amazing to you out loud, have mindful transitions where you take a deep breath and ask yourself what you would like to carry into the next moment, and have a evening wind-down daily. You can reflect on what made you smile or what you appreciated that day. It's all up to you and how you set your joy intention on a daily basis.

Unexpected Joy

Intentional living helps you find joy no matter the season or the place. Joy doesn't always look like fireworks or big gestures. Sometimes, just taking a deep breath is full of joy. That is a soft moment. The more you choose to live with intention, the more you'll find that joy isn't a thing you have to chase (although I do intentionally), it's a companion on the path you're traveling one thoughtful stride at a time.

Intentional Living Your Way!

There is no one “right” way to live intentional. What brings joy to one person might not for another. That is the beauty of it, right. Living with intention is about listening inward, honoring your values, and trusting that joy fills presence. Let your choices reflect your truest self. Choose connection over performance and find the magic in the mundane.
